What is the significance of using the word Nappy in the name of your salons?

The significance of the word Nappy in our name was to reinvent the word and its meaning. As African Americans we created, then utilized this word to describe our hair & hair indigenous to our heritage. It was also important to identify ourselves as a brand that celebrate our culture, embraced pride in our heritage and set a new standard of beauty in a positive way

The name has definitely created challenges, because, there are still many people of color who are not ready to dismiss the indoctrination of western European teachings. We all were conditioned to believe that anything associated with our true heritage and culture was sub-standard, especially our nappy hair!

On the other hand, limitations are something OH! My Nappy Hair has not accepted. Because, despite the challenges or the challenge that our new thought represents to some people, there are many who are empowered and who rejoice in the concept of being accepted with their beautiful, nappy heads of hair.
